Fire Prevention
An important service that the Allendale Fire Department offers is that of educating the public about fire safety. Firefighters regularly visit the elemantary schools within our jurisdiction to educate students in Fire Safety. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, preschools, home school groups, churches, and other organizations visit our stations for tours. If you would like a tour of the fire station or would like to request our pressence for an educational purpose please call Lt. Dave Thurkettle at (616)-895-4544 to schedule an event.
Fire Department "Safety Survey"
Mike Keefe, Fire Chief, is available to assist residents and businesses with fire evacuation plans and safety inspections, and can be contacted by calling 895-4544. The most important part of this survey would be to identify areas that may be in violation of Fire and Safety codes, and the action you can take to correct them. The Fire Department will advise you on things you may be able to do to help the fire department in an event that they are called to your business for a fire or medical emergency. This would be a non-binding survey except if major safety violation (s) are found. If major violations are found, it would require corrective action on your part. The Fire Department will also do "Follow-Up" surveys, upon your request, to review the corrective actions you have taken.

Do you have a fire hydrant in front of or near your home or business? Can you find it under the snow in the winter? Please help the Fire Department by keeping the snow cleared away from your fire hydrant. This will greatly help the fire department if it is necessary to use the hydrant for a fire at your home or one of your neighbor's home.
